Growing Non-GMO Organic Double Standard Corn Vegetable Seeds
Direct sow corn seeds in the spring when the soil starts to dry and is above 60F. Corn does not transplant well as it has a taproot. Seeds should be sown 1-2 inches deep, 3-4 inches apart, with rows 24 inches apart. When true leaves develop, thin to 12 inches apart. Apply a side dressing of fertilizer when the stalks are about knee height.

Corn is a staple of the summer vegetable garden. Because corn relies on pollination by wind it is important to grow corn in clumps or blocks rather than single rows. Blocks of 4 or more rows are recommended. Plan ahead to grow corn in a full-sun location that won’t interfere with the light needed for your other crops.
Harvesting Organic Double Standard Corn
Sweet corn is harvested at the milk stage when the kernels are plump and firm but release liquid when poked or bitten into. This is about 15-25 days after the silk first appears. The ears should begin to round out on the tips when mature, while the tassels begin to brown. Simply peel back the husk and check if the corn has reached the desired harvesting stage with these characteristics.

It was developed in Maine from the yellow Burnell and an early white heirloom from St. Lawrence Valley, New York.
Double Standard averages 7-inch ears with 12-14 rows and bicolored white and yellow kernels. Although some ears may appear completely white or yellow.
