50-90 Days to maturity. Cosmos bipinnatus, Lobularia maritima, Zinnia elegans, Centaurea cyanus, and Helianthus annuus. Organic Cut Flower Mix Seeds. Non-GMO, Organic, Annuals. The Organic Cut Flower Mix offers a selection of small to large blooms that can be used for everyday floral arrangements. These flowers grow under average soil conditions with a pH between 6 and 7, are heat and drought tolerant, and provide a variety of vibrant colored blooms.~6,000 seeds/oz.
To grow this cut flower mix we recommend broadcasting the seed into a field, flower bed, or container. Because these plants can spread 12” or more keep your seeds fairly spread out to allow enough space for your plants to coexist. When plants are grown too close together they may begin competing for space, rather than encouraging healthy growth. To help keep your seeds moist sprinkle a dusting of soil over the top. Be careful not to cover them completely as some of these seeds require light to germinate.
Seeds germinate in 7-14 days with varying days to maturity (50-90). Be sure to keep your soil moist until the plants are established. Because these seeds are heat and drought-tolerant watering needs are a little less strict after establishment. Watch for wilting or curling leaves as a signal that more water is needed.
Organic Cut Flower Mix in the Flower Garden
Who doesn’t enjoy a bouquet of cut flowers fresh from the garden? This mix is ideal for those who would like to add a fresh, personal touch here and there throughout the summer and fall. Try adding these semi-dwarf varieties to your flower gardens for some sparks of vibrant color, and a convenient supply of cut flowers for the perfect bud vase. Because this mix includes an assortment of semi-dwarf varieties you don’t have to worry about your flower beds looking too wild for some great blooms.
Harvesting the Organic Cut Flower Mix
To harvest your cut flower garden simply cut your stems near the ground, or at a node point. This is the junction where leaves branch off. Cutting above this point may encourage more blooms to grow. Wait to cut your flowers until the blooms/buds have appeared and the stem is upright and somewhat firm (not floppy or limp). Always use sharp knives, scissors, or pruners to harvest
About Organic Cut Flower Mix Garden Seeds
This mix is made of ~15% Cosmos Dwarf Sensation, ~7% Alyssum Mixed colors, ~30% Zinnia Red, ~1% Bachelor Buttons Jubilee (Blue Cornflower), ~12% Zinnia Thumbelina, ~35% Sunflower Dwarf.
The expected bloom time is summer through fall. Plant these in the spring, then again in the late summer for strong blooms all season long.
Zinnias are edible flowers, though it is recommended to only cook with the petals. These blooms have a bitter taste and are often preferred as a garnish, though the whole plant is edible.
Bachelor Buttons are also edible with a mild, cucumber-like green flavor that adds a crispness to any dish they are included in.
While most people prefer the seeds of a sunflower, the entire plant is edible from root to petal.
