Growing Non-GMO Star Chaser Sunflower Flower Seeds
Star Chaser F1 hybrid sunflower seeds grow happily in most gardens. Directly sow these as soon as the soil temperature exceeds 45 Fahrenheit. For earlier blooms, start the seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the soil warms up to the desired level. Germinate and then grow the seedlings under a grow light or bright window. Transplant the seedlings outdoors only after hardening off. Plant the seeds or seedlings in a prepared area, free of competition and in full sun. The seeds should germinate within two weeks and growing so rapidly you can almost see it.
These gorgeous single-stem annuals will die at the first hard frost, but can sometimes self-seed to send a new generation the following year if the seeds aren’t collected or eaten; this is most common in areas with mild winters. There is no need to worry about letting volunteers take over as these showy sunflowers are not invasive or harmful. Star Chaser Sunflowers have flexible water requirements and can handle variations in irrigation. This variety may benefit from staking, especially at the end of the season and during rough weather.
Star Chaser Sunflower in the Flower Garden
Star Chaser Sunflowers are stunning to plant among wildflowers or along a property or fence line. They are an excellent choice for involving children in their exciting and noticeable growth. They can be a specimen or focal point for their enchanting display, or scattered in any spare patch of soil due to their readiness to grow.
Harvesting Star Chaser Sunflower
These tall beauties can be cut flowers for seasonal bouquets of sunshine yellow. When they are in full bloom, snip off the stem 12-18 inches down. They are perfect for fall bouquets. Bundle a few together with a rubber band and hang them upside down in a well-ventilated area for dried sunflowers!
Star Chaser Sunflowers also bear edible seeds. Follow these suggestions: First, be swift! The birds and critters adore these seeds and will eat them as promptly as they are ready. Utilize a mesh sack with a drawstring like a seed collecting bag or nut milk bag and place it over the flower head (cinch the string to secure the opening) once the petals have faded. Over the next month, the seeds will mature and naturally fall to the bottom of the bag for easy collecting!
