Growing Non-GMO Incredible Dwarf Sunflower Flower Seeds
Incredible Dwarf sunflower seeds grow well in many growing zones. Directly sow the seeds when the soil temperature exceeds 45 F, even at night. Optionally, start the seeds inside 3-4 weeks before the soil warms up. Nonetheless, most gardeners have great success with the direct sow method. Plant the seeds in a choice area, free of weeds and in full sun. The seeds should germinate in about two weeks and grow rapidly enough that you can practically watch the progression.
These gorgeous single-stem annuals will die at the first hard frost. In mild winter areas where the seeds are not collected, volunteers can pop up the next year. However, there is no need to worry about volunteered taking over, as these showy sunflowers aren’t invasive or harmful. Incredible Dwarf sunflowers prefer drier conditions with an infrequent yet deep watering schedule. This variety will not likely need staking.
Incredible Dwarf Sunflower in the Flower Garden
Incredible Dwarf sunflowers are breathtaking to plant nearly anywhere. They are an excellent choice for involving kids or novice gardeners in their effortless growth and compact size. They can be a centerpiece or scattered in any bare patch of soil. Try interplanting with our Santa Fe Sunset sunflowers for a full range of sunflower colors and sizes. The two varieties have beautiful contrasting physical characteristics but similar growing requirements. They thrive together visually and physically.
Harvesting Incredible Dwarf Sunflower
This variety does well as cut flowers for seasonal bouquets. When they are in full bloom, snip off the stem 1-2 feet below the flowerhead or at an adjoining branch. Keep the stems in cool, clean water for indoor beauty lasting 2-3 weeks! Single-headed varieties will not rebloom and should be removed once harvested. For dried bouquets, bundle a few together and hang them upside down in a well-ventilated area for extended color!
Incredible Dwarf sunflowers develop edible seeds. To harvest them, you will need one simple instrument: a fine mesh bag that can be secured around the flower head. A seed-collecting bag is perfect for this. Once the petals have faded, cinch the bag around the flower head. Over the next 3-4 weeks, the seeds in the centers will fall into the bag!
About Incredible Dwarf Sunflower Garden Seeds
This flower can also be known as St Bartholomew’s Star, Flower of Peru, or Comb Flower.
These sunflowers can also be cultivated in pots. Select a planter that is 12-18 deep. Keep in mind that a sunflower in a pot still demands 6-8 hrs of sun to flourish. They can be grown inside, but typically need supplemental light.
This variety is perfect for those who want sunflowers but prefer a smaller habit for their landscape or indoor space. Companion planting with chives is space efficient and may deter aphids.
Instead of harvesting the seeds, leave them on the flowers, and they will become bird feeders in the autumn that attract all sorts of avifauna!
Expect approximately four weeks of constant color from the 9-inches wide blooms during their flowering season, with many persisting from summer into fall!
Tips From Our Gardeners
"Incredible Dwarf sunflowers are a perfect variety if you are looking for a solid color sunflower but are low on vertical space. These are a great substitute for Russian Mammoth sunflowers and other fully yellow varieties."
