Growing Non-GMO Organic Goldie Sunflower Flower Seeds

Goldie F1hybrid sunflower seeds flourish anywhere that the temperature and light requirements are met. Directly plant these seeds into prepared soil, few of weeds, as promptly as the soil temperature surpasses 45 F. For earlier blooms, start the seeds inside 3-4 weeks before the soil warms. Yet, most gardeners have sufficient success with direct sowing. The seeds should germinate in about 2 weeks and grow rapidly enough that you can visibly see the upward progression.

These gorgeous single-stem annuals will die at the end of the growing season. In areas with mild winters where the seeds were not collected, volunteers can sometimes show up the following year. Nonetheless, there is no need to worry about volunteers becoming weedy, as these showy sunflowers aren’t invasive or harmful. Goldie sunflowers have average water requirements. This variety will not likely need staking except at the end of the season or in preparation for harsh weather.

Goldie sunflowers are perfect for planting among a wildflower mix, in blocks, or along a property or fence line. Choose this species for projects involving kids or novice gardeners for their exciting, and noticeable growth. They can be a focal point for their captivating exhibit or scattered in any empty patch of soil due to their willingness to thrive.

This unique flower reminds some people of echinacea coneflowers. The pompom centers are surrounded by longer single petals, creating a globular sun look. The 6-inch wide warm yellow blooms are fantastic for a variety of uses inside and out.

Harvesting Goldie Sunflower

This variety does well as cut flowers for seasonal arrangements. When they are in bloom, snip off the stem 12-18 inches below the flowerhead. Store in cool, clean water for indoor beauty lasting 2-3 weeks!

Optionally, bundle 3-4 together and hang them upside down in a well-ventilated area for dried sunflowers! Dried sunflowers can be styled in waterless arrangements through the autumn and winter if they are well-preserved.

Goldie sunflowers can also be known as double comb flower, double golden flower of Peru, St Bartholomew’s star, and pompom sunflower!

It is not recommended to plant sunflowers near potatoes or pole beans. Their leaves and stems emit a compound that suppresses other plants’ growth vigor.

Sunflowers can also be planted in pots if they are deep enough. Select a planter that is at least 12-18 inches deep. Bear in mind that planting a sunflower in a container that is too small will cause it to struggle to reach its full potential.

Goldie sunflowers are perfect for those who love sunflowers and pompoms type flowers, like some dahlias and alliums. They provide the best of both worlds.

This variety differs from the more well-known Teddy Bear Sunflower variety by having longer outer petals, a possibility for greater height, and more of a warm, golden-yellow color.

Expect a minimum of one month of constant color during their peak flowering season, with many blooms persisting from summer into fall!
