Growing Triamble Winter Squash in the Vegetable Garden
Sow seeds 1 inch deep in warm soil after all frost danger. Direct sow in hills or rows, or start indoors 3-4 weeks early in biodegradable pots to avoid root disturbance. Space plants 36-48 inches apart with 60-72 inches between rows to allow vines to run.
Keep soil evenly moist and mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds. Feed with a balanced fertilizer or compost at planting and when vines begin to run. Encourage pollinators; avoid overhead watering to minimize mildew. Good companions include corn and beans; avoid planting near potatoes.
Harvesting of Triamble Winter Squash
Harvest when rinds are hard, the skin color is set, and the stem turns dry and corky—before hard frost. Cut fruit with 2-3 inches of stem. Cure in a warm, dry, well-ventilated spot for about 10-14 days at roughly 80 to 85 F, then store cool and dry. Properly cured Triamble stores for many months.
About Triamble Winter Squash Garden Seeds
Also known as Shamrock squash, this Australian heirloom was introduced in the early 1930s and is prized for its distinctive three-lobed form and exceptional keeping quality. Fruits often reach around 10 pounds with fine-grained, sweet orange flesh that’s excellent for roasting, soups, and baking.
Bred and selected for firmness and storage; the unusually hard rind helps it ship and store well.
Each lobe contains a small seed cavity, leaving more usable flesh compared to many squashes.
Stories/Tips From Our Gardeners
"Let Triamble cure well—its flavor deepens in storage. I roast the wedges skin-on, then scoop the sweet flesh for pies and soups."
