100 Days to Maturity. Cucurbita maxima. Golden Hubbard Squash Vegetable Seeds. Non-GMO, annual, open-pollinated, heirloom, winter squash seeds—a favorite variation on the Hubbard squash theme. Golden Hubbard produces large fruits with short-to-no neck and thick, slightly pointed bottoms. The texture is lumpy or warted, and the color is bright orange-red. The flesh is thick, nutty, and dry. Suited to baking or roasting. This full-sized vine can grow eight feet or more long and will produce 3 to 4 squashes per vine. Often planted in clusters of three plants with 8 to 10 feet between clusters, giving the large vines room to grow. An excellent storage squash. ~110 seeds/oz.

Growing Golden Hubbard Squash in the Vegetable Garden
Direct sow Golden Hubbard seeds 1 inch deep once the danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures reach at least 65 F. This variety's vines grow large, so plant in clusters of three plants, spacing plants 36 to 48 inches apart within each cluster and leaving 8 to 10 feet between clusters to give the sprawling vines plenty of room.
Water deeply and consistently, especially as fruit begins to set, and work compost or aged manure into the soil before planting, since squash are heavy feeders. Because the vines can stretch 8 feet or more, this variety needs open garden space rather than raised beds or containers.
Harvesting Golden Hubbard Squash
Harvest once the rind has fully hardened and can't easily be dented with a fingernail, generally around 100 days after planting. Cut fruit from the vine with a sharp knife or pruning shears, leaving a short stem attached to help extend storage life. Curing the squash for about a week in a warm, dry spot before storage further toughens the rind and improves keeping quality.
