60 days to maturity. Spinacea oleracea. Alrite Spinach Hybrid Seeds. Annual. This beautiful hybrid spinach is both delicious and resistant to disease, weather, and bolting. Its leaves are broad, dark green, and end at a nice point. This Japanese variety grows
upright and is best harvested in the fall or winter. It’s a great easy-to-grow variety for your home garden or greenhouse production. If you want to try a new spinach variety this year, Alrite spinach is a perfect choice. ~2,500 seeds / oz.
Sow seeds half an inch deep in well-draining soil in late summer. Keep the soil consistently moist for the best flavor. If temperatures get to be higher than 80 degrees, bolting is a risk. Be sure you space plants properly and keep weeds down to help with pests and disease control. For multiple harvests, plant seeds every two weeks.
Harvesting Hybrid Alrite Spinach
Alrite spinach will be ready to harvest in around 60 days. Harvesting while young will ensure the best flavor. Cut plants at the base right above the soil and pull away. Alternatively, harvest outer leaves and allow inner leaves to mature further. If spinach begins to bolt, harvest immediately as bolting will ruin the flavor very quickly.
Alrite spinach is delicious in many dishes. Use in a stir-fries with other vegetables like zucchini or sugar snap peas and chicken, or in a soup dish like cream of spinach. Another fun dish, ohitashi, is a Japanese spinach dish commonly used as a side. Blanch spinach leaves and serve with a soy broth. Use Alrite spinach as a garnish with bonito flakes.
