Growing Evolution Violet Salvia Garden Seeds

Most home gardens do not have the warm, humid conditions necessary to sow Evolution Violet seeds directly outside and plants may not likely bloom. Begin salvia Evolution Violet seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before final frost. Seeds will germinate with full lighting in 14-21 days. Once germinated, transplant salvia seedlings to indoor container or harden off if transplanting outside to a suitable environment. For gardens with optimal conditions, plant 3-4 salvia Evolution Violet seeds ¼ inch deep with 20" apart in average, evenly moist, and well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Evolution Violet salvia is known to tolerate some drought and can be susceptible to downy and powdery mildew. Avoid overhead watering by watering soil directly to minimize wetting foliage. Salvia plants have no serious pests or diseases. Salvia Evolution Violet seeds mature in 98-112 days as 16-24 inch tall bushy uprights with 16-20 inch spreads and a single 6-7 inch indigo-violet floret spike.

Evolution Violet salvia is a 2006 All-American Selections (AAS) Flower Winner and is noted by judges for its low maintenance, tolerance to heat and drought, pest and disease free, and continuous color from early summer to the first hard frost. AAS noted that Evolution Violets grow as perennials in most frost-free gardens.
