Growing Indian Summer Rudbeckia Garden Seeds

Indian Summer rudbeckia has a wildflower hardiness to it and can be broadcasted directly just like wildflower. But for indoor or container growth, begin Indian Summer rudbeckia seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the final frost. For direct broadcasting, blend Indian Summer seeds with sand to increase visibility and broadcast the mix over a 10-square foot area and evenly rake and lightly tamp. If sowing traditionally, plant 3-4 Indian Summer rudbeckia seeds 1/8 inch deep and 18-24 inches apart in moist, Organically rich, and well-drained soil in full sun. Indian Summer can be susceptible to downy and powdery mildew and cut back spent foliage, leaves, and blooms after flowering to prolong into the fall. Rudbeckias have no serious pests or diseases, but monitor for slugs and snails on young plants. Indian Summer rudbeckia seeds mature in 84-105 days as 24-36 inch tall bushy uprights 18-24 inch wide with enormous 6-9 inch golden yellow blooms.

Indian Summer rudbeckia is noted by AAS judges as being "a rapidly growing annual" with "huge blooms 6-9 inches across and makes a wonderful "Ëœsunflower" like cut bouquets." Fleuroselect judges also noted Indian Summer rudbeckia for its "extremely large flower heads."
