Growing Silver Shield Plectranthus Garden Seeds

Silver Shield plectranthus is easy to grow from seed and recommended for direct sowing outdoors after the frost. For earliest blooms, begin seeds indoors 4-6 weeks prior and transplant plectranthus seedlings to a well-shaded spot either indoors or out. For direct sowing, plant 1-2 Silver Shield plectranthus seeds ¼" deep and 24-36" apart in rich, humusy, evenly most, and well-drained soil in partial sun to full shade. Silver Shield plectranthus will only tolerate full sun if grown in a cool summer climate, otherwise, keep plants shaded in hot and humid gardens. Plants are native to eastern Australia's rainforests and can not endure frosts. Avoid overwatering because plants will not perform well if not properly drained, making Silver Shield plectranthus susceptible to crown rot, mold, and mildew. Plectranthus has no serious pests or diseases, but monitor regularly for mealybugs, mites, and scale. Silver Shield plectranthus matures in 98-112 days as 24-36" tall mounding ground cover shrubs with a 24-36" spread of silvery green foliage with bluish white floret spikes.

Plectranthus argentatus, often known as Silver Shield or Silver Spurflower, is a low-growing member of the mint family and native to the warm and humid rainforests of eastern Australia. Plectranthus argentatus has been recognized by London's Royal Horticultural Society with its Award of Garden Merit.
