Growing Non-GMO Double Cascade Valentine Petunia Flower Seeds
Petunia seeds are tiny; although they are easy to germinate and grow, the trickiest part is planting! Luckily this variety is pelleted which makes planting a bit easier. For earliest blooming, begin Double Cascade Valentine petunia seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before the final frost and transplant once there are at least two sets of true leaves. Double Cascade Valentine seeds will germinate within 2 weeks with full lighting. If transplanting outside, harden off seedlings into a partially shaded spot in the garden, or an equally moderate place indoors. This involves gradually acclimatizing the seedlings to their new environment over the course of a few weeks. Plants are adaptable to being repotted throughout their lives. Double Cascade Valentine seeds are hardier than most petunias and are drought-tolerant. Avoid overhead irrigations to minimize wetting foliage.
When transplanting seedlings indoors to outdoors, it is paramount to slowly acclimatize them to their new environment. They will die off quickly without the hardening off process as described. Petunias bloom the most with regular fertilizations or compost applications. If using conventional fertilizer, apply a time-release granular at the time of transplanting and then supplement throughout the season every 1-2 months with a low-strength feed. Alternatively, mix well-rotted compost into the soil at the time of planting or transplanting, and then every 2 months apply a fresh handful at the base of the plants, then water it in. This tip may not be required for healthy and fertile soils.
