Short-vine bush peas such as Progress No. 9 Peas are wilt-resistant, fast-maturing and grow abundantly for a late spring or fall crop. Progress No. 9 provides crisp, hearty sweet peas that are tender and fresh! This popular garden shelling-pea was named after plant breeder Thomas Laxton, who initially called it "Laxton's Progress No. 9" during the mid-19th century.
Non-GMO Progress No. 9 pea (Pisum sativum) plants grow as hardy dwarf vegetables with abundant low-growth as a compact bush. These popular garden-shelling peas provide a fresh fast-maturing crop with 4-5" deep-green pods that can be easily removed from the hearty sweet peas. Your annual heirloom will develop as an early-to-harvest variety and grow on their short-vines longer than other pea varieties. Your Progress No. 9 garden peas will be ready 2-3 weeks after blooming small flowers, but before when the 6-9 peas fully mature, which causes the thick pods to swell.
