50 Days to maturity. Cucumis sativus. Organic Sumter Cucumber Seeds. Non-GMO, annual, organic, open-pollinated, heirloom, monoecious, pickling cucumber. Suitable for growing in fields, containers (with support), garden plots, raised beds, and greenhouses (with pollinators). Resistant to Powdery Mildew, Downy Mildew, Alternaria Leaf Spot, and scab. Tolerant to Cucumber Mosaic Virus and some resistant to Anthracnose. This blocky, early-maturing pickling cucumber is great for the home garden. It produces tapered, 5-6 inch long, medium green fruits with small white spines. ~1,000 seeds/oz.

Growing Organic Sumter Cucumber in the Vegetable Garden
Direct sow 1-2 weeks after your last frost date or start indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting. Direct sowing is preferred to prevent root damage while transplanting. Sow 1 inch deep, 12-18 inches apart, with rows spaced 48 inches. Cucumbers prefer warm growing conditions and rich, well-draining soil with full sun.
This is a monoecious variety which produces both male and female flowers. Pollinating insect activity is crucial to successful fruit development.
Harvesting Organic Sumter Cucumber
Collect a harvest frequently once fruits begin to develop. Harvesting while young will prevent the development of a bitter flavor. Remove the cucumbers once they reach 4-5 inches. Using harvesting or pruning shears is preferred over yanking them off the vine.
