Growing Organic Homemade Pickles Cucumber in the Vegetable Garden
Cucumbers are best directly sown a week or two after your last frost date once the soil and air temperatures have warmed to about 75 F. Cucumbers may also be started indoors 3-4 weeks ahead of time for earlier starts, but be sure to carefully prevent damage to the roots when transplanting. Sow 1 inch deep and 12-18 inches apart, with rows 48-60 inches apart. Homemade Pickles may be grown in containers with a vertical support system.
This is a monoecious variety. This means it will produce both male and female flowers, requiring insect or hand pollination to bear fruit. While cucumbers need fertile, well-draining soil, be careful not to over-fertilize with nitrogen. This can cause your plants to over-produce foliage and bear little fruit.
Harvesting Organic Homemade Pickles Cucumber
Homemade Pickles Cucumbers reach about 5-6 inches in length and should be picked frequently once fruit develops. Preferably harvest while young, around 2-5 inches. This will encourage more fruit production. This early to mid producer is perfect for homemade pickles, as the name suggests. Prevent damage by using harvesting shears instead of pulling the fruit from the plant.
About Organic Homemade Pickles Cucumber Garden Seeds
Monoecious cucumbers like Homemade Pickles can be used as a pollen source for gynoecious varieties. Simply plan 1 monoecious type for every 10 gynoecious plants.
This variety has great disease resistance to Angular Leaf Spot, Anthracnose (A), Cucumber Mosaic Virus, Downy Mildew, Powdery Mildew, and Scab. Because of its disease resistance, it is a popular selection for home gardens.
Tips From Our Gardeners

Pests and Diseases: |
This variety is resistant to Angular Leaf Spot, Anthracnose (A), Cucumber Mosaic Virus, Downy Mildew, Powdery Mildew, and Scab.
