How to Grow Flower Bulbs, Bare Roots, Seed Potatoes & More
Growing Red County Asiatic Lilies
Plant bulbs 6 inches deep in fertile, well-drained soil in early spring or fall. Space 8-12 inches apart. Choose a sunny to partly shaded location. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Mulch to conserve moisture and keep roots cool. Lily bulbs may be planted in either the spring or fall seasons when the soil is workable, but not muddy.
It is normal for lily bulbs to appear with small cuts, scars, dimples, or discoloration. This is due to the harvesting and cleaning processes. Good bulbs should feel firm, and can sometimes have bulblets or offshoots already forming. While some bulbs may appear “prettier” than others, their firmness is the best way to know that they are good and viable.
Red County Lilies in the Garden
Compact and reliable, Red County lilies add bold color to early summer borders. Their strong stems and long vase life make them an excellent choice for cut flowers.
Harvesting Red County Lilies
Cut stems when buds show color but before fully open. This ensures the longest vase life. Leave at least one-third of the stem to feed the bulb for next year’s growth.
About Asiatic Lilies
Asiatic lilies are some of the easiest lilies to grow, known for their hardiness, vibrant colors, and early bloom. Red County is a standout for its rich, saturated red flowers.
