Growing Non-GMO Dianthus Super Parfait Series Flower Seeds
Super Parfait Series dianthus seeds can be sown immediately after the frost or, for earliest blooms, start indoors 8-10 weeks prior. Germination will take 7-14 days then transplant and harden off seedlings once there are two sets of true leaves in a partially sunny spot in the garden or an equally bright place indoors. Lightly press 4-5 Super Parfait Series dianthus seeds 10 inches apart into average, medium moist, and well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Do not overwater because Super Parfait Series dianthus is susceptible to crown rot, rust, and leaf spots caused by saturation if not properly drained or ventilated in crowded gardens. Plants will benefit from deadheading and partial shade during hot summer days.
Fertilize every eight weeks with a 5-10-5 fertilizer while growing. Keep weeds down, especially in the early stages, so that the plants can establish themselves. Cut back spent blooms just below where the flower bud formed to prolong color or to prevent reseeding. They will die back if exposed to freezing temperatures for too long.
Dianthus Super Parfait Series in the Flower Garden
Dianthus is a perfect pairing with other cold-season flowering annuals in annual beds. Try also planting lobelia, monkey flowers, petunias, snapdragons, alyssum, pansies, or African Daisies. The mixture of heights and colors creates an organized chaos type of feeling which works wonderfully to maximize a cottagey vibe.

Dianthus chinensis, sometimes referred to as China Pink, Rainbow Pink, or just simply Pink, is native to many of the moderate climates of eastern Asia including China, Mongolia, Korea, and much of eastern Russia. Dianthus chinensis is strikingly similar in appearance to its cousin of the same Dianthus genus, the Sweet William flower. Dianthus has been popularly cultivated throughout Asia for hundreds of years, but has since been naturalized throughout most of the world including one variety of Dianthus barbatus which thrives in the North American Arctic.
Tips From Our Gardeners
”The biggest difference between Sweet William and China Pink is that China Pink can tolerate much sandier and rockier soils while Sweet William demands loamy, fertile soil. They both offer great annual color!"
