This easy-to-grow, early maturing, sooyow type variety is burpless, very crisp, and has a thin skin that does not need to be peeled. The monoecious flowers are a beautiful golden color and are great for a pollinator-friendly garden. Palace King’s fruit is exquisite for a variety of uses but our favorite is pickles! It happily grows in various zones and has a long production time. Originally from Northern China, it will find a happy home in a sunny spot of your garden! Approx. 880 seeds per oz.

How to Grow Palace King Cucumber
Sow seeds directly into the soil after the last frost date passes. Keep the soil temperature between 60 and 90℉. If you seed indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost, you will get cucumbers about 2-3 weeks earlier. Prep the soil with fertilizer and then transplant the starts outdoors after hardening off for a week or two. See our free vegetable growing guide for more tips!
Keep the surrounding area free of weeds. Fertilize when the first blooms appear and periodically for the rest of the season to encourage fruit production. We recommend training Palace King to climb a trellis or fence to improve air circulation and save space. Water deeply and regularly but avoid water pooling near the roots.
Harvesting Palace King Cucumber
Harvest when the cucumbers are between 10-12 inches long and firm. Remove them from the plant as soon as the cucumbers are ripe.
Culinary Tips
Sooyow varieties are the perfect choice for pickling because of their crispy texture and small seed cavity. Palace King cucumbers are also used sauteed, fresh in salads, or marinated.
