How to Grow Green Light Cucumber
Start some seeds indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost and transplant them into prepared soil after hardening off. Plant in succession by continuing to sow the seeds over a 3-5 week period to extend the harvest. They also thrive when planted directly into a moist garden bed or field soil. Planting near stakes or trellises and training to climb vertically encourages better fruit and saves garden space.
Mulching or planting a cover crop to cover bare soil minimizes weeds and increases the soil moisture. Fertilize when the first blooms appear and periodically throughout the rest of the season to maximize fruit production. Water deeply and regularly, but avoid water pooling near the roots. See the free PDF vegetable growing guide linked above for more tips.
Harvesting Green Light Cucumber
Fruit is optimally harvested when they are 3-4” long. Harvest promptly when they are ready, otherwise, the plants may halt or slow fruit production.
Green Light’s delicious flavor and small size make them perfect for pickling whole in jars at home and as a quick snack! The skin is not bitter and can be eaten easily.
Tips From Our Gardeners
“My nieces adore eating mini cucumbers like these. They are the perfect size for a quick and nutritious snack! I will personally be recommending this variety to them for growing in their own home garden.”
Prevent potential issues by carefully monitoring the plants and removing any problems immediately. Cover with a netting or row cover to deter beetles and other unwanted visitors. Avoid moisture on the leaves to minimize the risk of downy and powdery mildew.
