65-70 Days to maturity. Brassica oleracea var. capitata. Wakamine Hybrid Cabbage Seeds. Hybrid, Non-GMO, Cool Season Annual. This popular Japanese hybrid is vigorous, easy to grow and has good heat tolerance. This medium-sized, deep green head weighs 3 to 3 1/2 lbs with a slightly flattened shape. It can be planted intensively and harvested summer through fall. Strongly resistant to fusarium wilt (yellows) and moderately resistant to black rot. ~ 1,800 seeds per oz.
Start seeds inside 6 weeks before the last frost date (or 8 weeks before the expected transplanting date). Keep the soil warm until emergence (about 75°F). Then keep plants around 60°F. Optimum growing temperature range is between 60-70°F. Seeds will not germinate in cool soil. Planting too early may affect plant vigor. Harden off plants carefully before transplanting. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Transplant in late spring/summer (soil temperatures at least above 60°F) in a very warm and sunny location.
This cabbage is fully harvestable at 65-70 days. It produces a green, semi-flat head, weighing 3-4 pounds. Cut the short root stem below the base and lift away the head of the cabbage.
Use in salads, sukiyaki, ohitashi, yosenabe, stir-fry, and soups! Also is great for pickling.
