AAS Winner. Up to 58 days. The Kentucky Blue green bean is a winner of the All-America Selections, and has all the best traits from both Blue Lake and Kentucky Wonder varieties. It is an excellent pick for home gardens and mass production alike! These beans can be harvested as soon as sixty days after being sown. Vines grow upright, so using a pole or a trellis is required for them to expand and produce pods. Each plant will produce annual harvests. Pods have a taste similar to that of a green bean, and are a light green shade.
Sow seeds an inch below the soil, making sure that the soil is loose and warm. They should be planted in full sun, and watered very often to make sure they don't wilt due to the heat. Seeds should be sown at the base of a pole so that they can grow up. When watering them, be sure not to overwet the plant, as this will cause disease. You can begin harvesting beans when they are about three to five inches long; this will usually be around fifty to seventy days. Leaving mature beans on the plant can stop or slow production, so be sure to harvest them as they become mature. Pole beans are indeterminate, different from Bush Beans- which means they continue to grow, blossom, fruit and keep growing. Once the bean seedling is in the ground and teams up with bacteria in the soil, beans will start to create their own nitrogen which is the most important nutrient plants require for strong new growth. Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod snaps or breaks in half cleanly. This is when seeds have just begun to form and the pods are 6 -7" long. Hold stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches which may continue to produce. At seasons end, plants are great compost material if not diseased. Rich source of minerals and vitamins with high fiber and low-calorie benefits. Approx. 90 seeds/oz.
This AAS winner is an excellent selection, as the traits of two highly acclaimed bean varieties have been blended together for excellent results.
