Up to 50 days. Formerly Burpee Stringless. Crisp pods are 5 to 6 inches long, slightly curved and entirely stringless. Dependable producer, even under adverse conditions! Each plant yields lots of flavorful, dark green, 6-inch, meaty pods that are completely stringless. The burpee variety of green bean is completely stringless and produces a week earlier than many other types of green beans. It can be grown in zones three through twelve, and is tolerant of heat and dry climates. It is also resistant to mosaic powdery mildew, and grows in a bush style, so no supports are needed.
Sow directly outdoors, one week after the last frost. Burpee beans will do best in a rich, well drained soil. Seeds can be placed one inch deep, with three inches between plants and in rows two to three feet apart. After sowing, press down on the soil. Burpee beans can do well in dry climates, and only need to be watered once a week. When the pods are four to eight inches long, they are ready to be harvested. This should be after fifty days. Picking mature pods will encourage the plant to keep producing, so be sure to regularly inspect the plant and harvest any that are ready.
Bush beans require full sun and well-drained soil. Good air circulation around bush bean plants is essential, especially for late shelling or dry type beans, as they are very susceptible to fungal diseases which prevail later in the season. Bush beans are light feeders; compost or well-rotted manures worked into the soil at the time of planting is sufficient. Harvest fresh beans before they become tough and stringy. If you can see the bulge of a developing bean through the green pod, the bean is over-mature. Because Bush Beans harvest will only last about 2 weeks, you can enjoy more if you make small individual plantings every 10 days or so. Approx. 90 seeds/oz.
