Growing Non-GMO Mountain of Gold Alyssum Flower Seeds
Alyssum seeds are hardy and should be sown straight into the garden bed after the danger of frost has passed. Do not plant seeds or transplants outside until after the danger of frost has passed. For early spring blooms in cooler zones, germinate the seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost under a grow light in warm soil (at least 60°F). Before transplanting outdoors, harden off the seedlings by gradually lengthening the time they spend outdoors. To improve drainage in your soil, work compost, sand, or ground-up mulch into it.
Water the plants regularly, but ensure that the leaves and the top 1-2 inches of soil can dry out completely between irrigations. Although not necessary, pruning branches whose leaves have finished blooming can encourage a more desirable, compact growth habit. In hot, arid climates, provide part shade and a layer of mulch at the base to protect the roots. Mountain of Gold Alyssum flowers are considered to be some of the easiest flowers to grow directly from seeds. Blooming may decline during consistently hot summers, but will resume as temperatures cool in the fall.
