Growing Alaska pea in the Vegetable Garden
Direct sow Alaska peas 0.5-1 inch deep in well-prepared soil as soon as the soil temperature reaches 45 F. Space seeds 6-9 inches apart, with rows 12-24 inches apart. Provide support with trellises for best growth.
Maintain consistent moisture and mulch to retain soil moisture and reduce weeds. Companion plant with radishes or carrots to help deter pests.
Harvesting Alaska pea
Harvest pods when they are fully developed, firm, and bright green, usually 60-70 days after planting. Frequent picking encourages prolonged production and maintains pod tenderness and sweetness.
