Champion II Hybrid Tomato Seed Growth Habits:
The indeterminate vines of Champion II hybrid tomato plants will produce high yields of approximately 10-oz. fruit starting early in the season and continuing until the first frost.
Champion II tomato seeds should be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks prior to your last frost date and transplanted after the threat of frost has passed into a sunny location with slightly acidic soil.
Various Uses for Champion II Hybrid Tomatoes:
Created specifically to be sandwich tomatoes, Champion II hybrid tomatoes are excellent for eating fresh and can be used for salads as well as on sandwiches and burgers.
Champion II Hybrid Tomato Benefits:
Red tomatoes, such as the Champion II variety, are an excellent source of lycopene, a heart-healthy antioxidant. They also have significant levels of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin B, Vitamin K, and calcium.
Additional Information:
Champion II tomato plants, like other tomato varieties, are susceptible to diseases that attack other nightshade plants, including potato, pepper, eggplant, and tobacco plants, so they should not be grown in soil where related plants have been grown in the previous year. Champion II hybrid tomatoes, however, are resistant to several diseases, including Verticillium and Fusarium wilts, Alternaria stem canker, and tomato yellow leaf curl virus.
To maintain the flavor of Champion II hybrid tomatoes, you should store them at room temperature in a dark location. If you choose to refrigerate your tomatoes, you risk losing a lot of the flavor.
While sharing similar names, fruit and disease resistance, the Bush Champion II tomato cultivar is different from Champion II tomatoes, as they have a determinate growth habit instead of indeterminate.
