Growing Non-GMO Red Arrow Radish Vegetable Seeds
Because radishes are cool-season vegetables, they can be planted in the spring when the soil is workable. Sow seeds 0.5 inches deep and 1 inch apart. Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart after germination. While radishes like moist soil, be careful not to overwater as this can encourage pest problems. Red Arrow is a winter daikon-type radish which means it will take longer to mature than spring-types. It may also be sown in late summer to fall for harvesting before winter sets in. Seeds germinate in 4-10 days.
Red Arrow Radish in the Vegetable Garden
Radishes are a common crop for home vegetable gardens. Winter types are usually larger, firmer, and milder in taste. They may also be cooked, whereas spring varieties are typically used fresh. When grown in the fall, winter types may be stored for use throughout the winter months. However, many people prefer to use them sooner rather than later.
Harvesting Red Arrow Radish
Red Arrow is ready to harvest approximately 40 days from sowing. The root will be elongated and about 1-3 inches in diameter. Check to see if your radish is ready by pushing some soil away from the top of the root. If it has reached the desired diameter, it is ready to be pulled. Harvest it by loosening the soil around the root and gently pulling the entire plant from the ground.
About Red Arrow Radish Garden Seeds
Red Arrow was cultivated for its bright red stems at the microgreen stage. For a refreshing addition to your favorite salads, sandwiches, and more, try growing this radish as microgreens.
Winter radishes develop longer, more substantial roots and may take twice as much time to mature as spring varieties.
Tips From Our Gardeners
"I like to rotate through my seeds as much as possible to make good use of them before their germination rates start to drop. If you have extra Red Arrow radish seeds, grow the excess as microgreens for a quick and easy leafy green."
