What is "Below Standard Seed"?
Simply put, it is seed that doesn't meet our state's (Utah) germination standard, a standard that varies slightly from seed to seed. Any seed intended for gardening that has a below standard germination rate cannot be sold alongside those that meet the state requirements (which often reflect the national requirements for germination).
We send samples of all our seed to the Utah Department of Agriculture, where they perform several tests to assess the quality of the seed. These state-wide and national seed standards are in line with Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA), which exist to ensure consumers that they are getting the highest quality seed, as advertised. Since this seed doesn't meet the state standard, we mark it as "Below Standard Seed".
Low germination seeds are non-refundable.

Tomato Seeds - Ace 55 VF (Organic)
V, F1, A. Sow Indoors in flats or pots. Seeds needed 1.5-2 lbs. per acre, .25 oz. or 40 plants per 100 ft. row. Interplant with aromatic herbs, spinach, and lettuce. Can be planted with onions, parsley, asparagus, and carrots. Harden off before transplanting. When transplanting, plant all the way up to the first set of leaves. Tomatoes will grow adventitious roots from the stem. Pick when ripe, with a little give on the outside. May have to determine by touch instead of color depending on the variety. When the first frost is about to come, pick all green fruits and they will ripen slowly indoors. Can be saved for later use by drying, canning whole, sliced, diced, pureed, or juiced. Self-pollinated. Collect seed and pulp and place in a jar with some water to cover. Let ferment for 2-4 days. Stir each day and pour off the pulp and any seeds floating on top. Keep the viable seeds that are at the bottom of the jar, and dry them out for several days before storing them.
Seeds Per Package:

Growth Habit: |
Determinate - Determinate tomatoes are more compact, bush-type plants that set their fruit all at once and end the harvest. They won't continue to produce tomatoes after that. By planting multiple plants in intervals a week apart, you can continue to harvest for longer periods. |
Soil Preference: |
Well-draining, loose (sandy loam), slightly acidic (6.2 to 6.8), and moisture retaining. Too much nitrogen in the soil may lead to more foliage production and less fruiting. Tomatoes like more phosphorus and potassium than other vegetables. |
Temp Preference: |
Warmer (70-85 F) |

Pests/diseases: |
Resistant to Verticillium Wilt, Fusarium Wilt Race 1, Alternaria Stem Canker. Common pests known to harm tomato plants, in general, include the tomato hornworm, cutworm, aphids, flea beetles, tomato fruit worms, and whiteflies. Also, watch for common diseases such as blossom end rot, fusarium wilt, powdery mildew, verticillium wilt, late blight, bacterial canker/spot, and tobacco mosaic virus. Most of these can be prevented by maintaining a regular watering schedule and avoiding overwatering. Regularly check your plants for pest damage throughout the season. For treating pest and disease problems, we recommend using an organic neem-based product. |
