How to Grow Red Meat Chinese Radishes
Make sure your soil is loose before planting by breaking it up with a gardening fork and mixing in sand if needed. Sow 1 seed a quarter inch deep, one inch apart in rows that are 6 to 12 inches apart. Thin seedlings to one every 4 inches once they have germinated. Water consistently to keep the soil moist and prevent roots from cracking. Fertilize as needed. Please note that these radishes should only be sown in late summer, not spring.
Harvesting Chinese Radishes
Chinese radishes should be harvested as soon as they are mature to make sure they have the best flavor. Since Red Meat radishes are round and large, you will have the best luck digging them up with a hoe, shovel, or gardening fork. Remove the tops and store them in a cold place. They will stay fresh for several weeks!
Save your radish tops and store them in the fridge as well! They are great in many recipes as Chinese radishes have particularly delicious tops.
