How to Grow Mantanghong Improved Chinese Radishes
Prepare a planting area with appropriate and well-worked soil. Sow one seed every inch, 1/2" deep. Thin seedlings to 4 inches apart to give the roots room to grow. Keep soil consistently moist to prevent cracking, and fertilize as needed. Plant one row a week for successive planting.
Harvesting Chinese Radishes
Harvest your Mantanghong radishes when they are 3 to 4 inches in diameter for the best flavor. Once they are full-grown, pull plants at the base to harvest. If you have difficulties doing this, use a shovel to loosen the soil and try again.
If you prefer a spicier flavor, you can leave your radishes a little longer before harvesting to give them a stronger bite!
Culinary Tips
Mantanghong radishes are sweet and crisp enough to eat raw! Slice them and add a pinch of salt or sugar. Try mixing sliced radishes with a vinaigrette for a fresh side salad, or use the tops in stir-fries and braises!
