1-2 Days to Harvest. Triticum aestivum. Organic Hard Red Winter Wheat Sprouting Seeds. Organic. Non-GMO. Sprouting. Excellent Germination Rate. Hard red Organic winter wheat is the best wheat we sell for sprouting. This organic hard red winter wheat has an incredible germination rate and fresh-tasting sprout tails that are remarkably delicious. These nutrient dense and sweet sprouts will become a staple in your kitchen after you try them. When sprouting wheat, be sure to only purchase organic seed or clearly labeled "seed for sprouting" otherwise the seed may be chemically treated and unsafe for sprouting. These have been microbial tested. Small up to bulk quantities available for purchase. Contains gluten. ~# seeds per ounce.
Growing Organic Hard Red Winter Wheat Sprout Seeds
Add about 1/3rd cup (5-6 tbsp) organic wheat seeds to a bowl or other container. Cover and soak for 6-8 hours. The wheat berries will expand significantly. After the initial soak, add them to your container of choice. Suitable for a seed sprouting jar, a sprouting tray, or a hemp sprout bag.
Jar or bag: Add to a sprouting jar or bag and begin rinsing 2-3x per day.
Tray: Spread onto a thin layer in a sprouting tray. Rinse or add water 2-3x per day, or follow sprouting tray instructions.
Do not allow the water to sit on the sprouts. This will keep the wheat sprouts fresh, crunchy, and hydrated without oversaturating them. Keep them away from direct light. Begin harvest in 1-2 days or as desired. Sprouted wheat is best enjoyed no later than 24-48 hours from seeding, before any significant shoot development or chlorophyll (green color) is present. A short root of half an inch or less is good. Wheat shoots are too fibrous by day 4. Alternatively, grow as a microgreen to the “grass” stage for juicing.
Benefits of Organic Hard Red Winter Wheat Sprouts
Wheat sprouting seeds grow a fiber-rich sprout fortified with Vitamins B, C, and K, folic acid, and protein. Hard Red Wheat Sprouts also contain plentiful antioxidants which aid the body in purging out any toxins. The fiber they contain is soluble fiber which is crucial in maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal tract. While carbohydrates have gotten a bad reputation these days, the carbs found in wheat sprouts such as these are the best possible source. Our bodies need carbohydrates from whole sources in order to function optimally and this is a fantastic one.
Culinary Tips
Our most popular grain, Hard Red Wheat, can be sprouted and ground to make bread or grown into grass for juicing. Eat them as is on salads and sandwiches. Simmer them into soups for added fiber and heartiness. Add them into smoothies for a creamy and heartier texture. Sprouted wheat breakfast cereals are also very popular.
Stories From Our Gardeners
"I have heard that sprouted hard red winter wheat can be ground and made into sourdough bread that has a deeper color and flavor compared to traditional white bread sourdough. I can’t wait to give it a try."
