Growing Non-GMO Organic Northstine Dent Corn Vegetable Seeds
Direct sow corn seeds 1-2 inches deep after spring soils have warmed to at least 60°F. Space seeds 3-4 inches apart with rows 24-36 inches apart. When true leaves are showing, thin to 12 inches. Corn is a warm-season crop that thrives during warm summer weather.

While dent corn isn’t popularly grown in home vegetable gardens, it certainly can be grown for making your own flour and yellow cornmeal. Dent corn is also popularly used for animal feed. Harvesting Organic Northstine Dent Corn
Unlike sweet corn types, Northstine Dent corn is harvested when the kernels have fully matured and started to dry. The plant will turn brown and dry. As the kernels lose their water content, they develop the collapsed “dent” characteristic. Before processing for flour and cornmeal, make sure the ears are allowed to dry completely after harvesting. Dent corn is commonly machine-harvested. For small-scale home gardeners and farms, hand harvesting may be preferred.
