Growing Oregon Giant (Organic) in the Vegetable Garden
Sow seeds 1 inch deep directly outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring. Space seeds 3-4 inches apart in rows 12-24 inches apart. Peas prefer cooler temperatures and consistent moisture to thrive.
Keep soil consistently moist and well-drained. Apply mulch to aid moisture retention. Plant with carrots or radishes to help deter pests and promote healthy growth.
Harvesting Oregon Giant (Organic)
Harvest pods when they are full, firm, and deep green-around 60 days. Frequent picking encourages continued production and keeps pods tender and sweet.

Stories From Our Gardeners
"One spring, I decided to dedicate the sunniest corner of my garden to something bold and new. It was the Oregon Giant Organic pea. I’d read about their broad, crisp pods and imagined them piled high in my kitchen, but I didn’t expect just how quickly they’d steal the show. I planted them in neat rows, gave them a modest trellis, and within weeks their vines shot upward like they had somewhere important to be. The first blossoms were a delicate blush of white, but soon came the pods. Thick, emerald green, and almost as long as my hand. I picked one before it was technically ready, just to taste, and it snapped so cleanly I thought I’d broken a candy cane. The flavor was sweet, earthy, and so fresh it almost tasted like the morning air itself. Before long, I was harvesting bowlfuls every couple of days. My daughter and I would sit on the porch with a pile between us, snapping them open or eating them whole. They never made it far from the garden. Most were gone before they saw a plate. By the end of the season, I realized the Oregon Giant hadn’t just filled my baskets, it filled my spring with something I’d grow again without hesitation."
