How to Grow Flower Bulbs, Bare Roots, Seed Potatoes & More
Growing Fall Gold Raspberry Roots
Plant in the spring after the ground can be worked. Choose a full sun location with fertile, well-draining soil. Space roots 36 inches apart in rows 6 feet apart. Dig a hole twice as large as the root ball. Lightly loosen the root ball and spread the roots so they are covered, leaving the crown at soil level. Lightly tamp the soil to remove any large voids and ensure good root-to-soil contact.
Provide support for continued growth with a trellis or wires and water regularly, especially in dry weather. Be careful not to overwater during early spring to avoid crown and root rot until spring rains and run-off ease. Fertilizer may be applied in the early spring and again in early summer to support fruit production and new growth.
Fall Gold Raspberries in the Garden
Fall Gold stands out with its unique golden fruit and dependable production. It produces a fall crop on first-year canes and a smaller summer crop on second-year canes. Plan for it to take 2-3 years to really produce a full harvest while the canes develop.
Harvesting Fall Gold Raspberries
Pick berries when golden and slightly soft, usually in mid-summer and again in fall. Harvest regularly to maintain quality and encourage continued fruit production.
About Fall Gold Raspberry
Fall Gold is a hardy, everbearing raspberry, loved for its unusual color and sweet flavor. Its mild, honey-like taste makes it a favorite for fresh eating and gourmet desserts.
Fall Gold, also seen as Fallgold, was released in New Hampshire in 1967 and is an early-season producer. With a delightful color, this raspberry is best used fresh rather than preserved.
Was originally a cross between Taylor and R. pungens oldhami (a wild species from Korea).
Stories From Our Gardeners
