Zones 1-7a: These zones experience cold winter weather known to reach freezing temperatures over
an extended period of time. During the month of December, it is best to limit direct sowing to wildflower seeds that will sprout in the spring months. Indoor sowing of microgreens, sprouts, and herbs is
a great way to continue gathering a fresh harvest!
Zones 7b-9a: These zones experience mild winter weather, allowing for some crops to be directly
sown outdoors, including leafy greens, herbs, bunching onions, radishes, cover crops, poppies, sweet peas,
calendula, among others. Don't forget to also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors!
Zones 9b-12: The warm winter, frost-free zones of 9-12 really thrive during December. This
month is great for planting most vegetables, cover crops, flowers, and herbs outdoors. Enjoy a break from the hot summer temperatures while your plants are not so stressed from the heat.
