Growing Non-GMO ProCut Sunflower Flower Seeds
Sunflowers can easily be direct sown outdoors, however, for early spring blooming, start ProCut seeds indoors 6-8 weeks prior. Seeds will take 7-14 days for germination. Early plants may need staking in addition to wind protection. For direct sowing, plant 1-2 ProCut sunflower seeds 0.5 inches inch deep and 12 inches apart in organic-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Transplant them outdoors after gradually acclimatizing them. Plant the seeds or seedlings in a prepared area, free of weeds and in full sun. The seeds should sprout in around two weeks and then grow quickly enough that you can watch the advancement.
These gorgeous single-stem annuals will die when exposed to a hard frost, but can self-seed to send a new generation the following year if the seeds are not collected or eaten; this is most common in areas with mild winters. No need to worry about volunteers taking over, as these showy sunflowers aren’t weedy at all. ProCut sunflowers have average water requirements and can handle light variations. This variety may need to be staked in high-wind situations or at the end of the season.
ProCut Sunflower in the Flower Garden
ProCut sunflowers are brimming with potential. Use these in your flower garden as a backdrop or a border. They are attractive when planted in rows, blocks, or singles. Scatter them in any bare patch of soil, or intentionally plant them along a property line. They even look at home among a wildflower mix.
Harvesting ProCut Sunflower
These tall beauties can be cut flowers for seasonal bouquets of bright yellow. When they are in full bloom, snip off the stem one to one and a half feet below the flower. Tie a few together with a rubber band and suspend them upside down in an area with good ventilation for dried flowers!
ProCut sunflowers also bear edible seeds. Follow these suggestions: First, be quick! The birds and other small critters go crazy for these seeds and will eat them if they aren’t collected promptly. Employ a mesh sack with a drawstring like a seed collecting bag or nut milk bag and tie it over the flowerhead when the petals have begun to fade. Throughout the following month, the seeds will mature and fall into the bag for easy collecting!

Expect roughly four to six weeks of stable color during their peak blooming season!
This variety has flower heads that are 7-8 inches wide with black faces. That is considered a medium-sized sunflower believe it or not!
