Our No-Till Pollinator Friendly Cover Crop Mix is a custom blend of cover crop seeds formulated to enrich your soil while also attracting beneficial pollinators to your garden or farm. Includes 25% each of: crimson clover, hairy vetch, peas, and oats. Peas and vetch have extra-floral nectaries that are accessible to pollinators of all sizes, including important species native to your region. Crimson clover is particularly attractive to bees and produces delicious, high-yield honey for beekeepers. Additionally, this strong cover crop mix helps prevent erosion, suppresses weeds, and revitalizes deficient or uncultivated soils. The oats provide length and structure for vetch and peas, making this an easy all-in-one cover crop solution that maximizes nitrogen fixation. Growing No-Till Pollinator Friendly Cover Crop Mix
Cover crops are easily sown by hand broadcasting or using a push broadcast spreader. Spread 1-2 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Avoid oversowing unless you plan to till it under before the growth becomes too dense. Cover crops should only be grown for 30-60 days before a killing frost or manual termination. Because this mix includes both annuals and perennials, spring termination may be required even after a killing frost. If growing as a spring or summer cover crop, be sure to terminate the crop by tilling, mowing, solarizing, or covering with a tarp. If tilling your crop in, allow 2-4 weeks before planting in this space. The green plant material will need at least this much time to decompose. It may also be planted in the fall. If planted in the fall, the oats and potentially the peas will winter kill, but vetch and clover may need to be tilled or killed again in the spring. Aggressive reseeding has NOT been observed with this mix. Methods like solarizing or covering with a tarp should only be used during warm weather over a period of 2-6 weeks to successfully trap enough heat to kill the crop.
