Growing Wormwood in the Herb Garden

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date, pressing them lightly into the surface of moist soil as light aids germination. Transplant outdoors when seedlings are sturdy and the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 18-24 inches apart with rows 24-36 inches apart. Wormwood prefers full sun and well-drained soils, and once established, it is tolerant of drought and poor soil conditions.

Water only during prolonged dry spells, as wormwood dislikes soggy soil. Trim back plants in midsummer to encourage branching and a bushier habit. Divide clumps every few years to rejuvenate growth.
