Growing Non-GMO Piedmont Basil Herb Seeds
We recommend starting basil indoors 5-7 weeks before your last frost date. However, it can be directly sown after your last frost date when soils warm to 60-70F. Plant basil seeds no more than 0.25 inches deep. Grow in a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Space plants 15 inches apart. Basil is an herb that can easily be grown in containers both indoors and out. With a mature size of 18-20 inches tall and 15 inches wide, Piedmont is great for growing in small spaces or indoors.
Piedmont Basil in the Herb Garden
Basil is a wonderful addition to the herb garden as it is popularly used for pesto, sauces, drinks, salads, soups, pizza, and more! It generally pairs well with chicken for endless ways to utilize this incredible herb.
Harvesting Piedmont Basil
Piedmont basil is known for its short internodes, making this a fantastic choice for easy management and great keeping quality. Harvesting can begin 60-75 days after planting or 30 days after transplanting when plants are at least 6-8 inches tall. Simply trim the leaves as needed, leaving some to support continued growth throughout the season. Leaves are the juiciest when harvested in the morning. Consistent and regular harvesting will encourage continued growth.

Tips From Our Gardeners
"Basil is one of my favorite herbs, but it will often bolt or begin flowering as soon as the summer heat sets in. To extend your basil harvest, simply cut back the developing flowers. This will cause the plants to continue producing foliage for an extended harvest."
