Growing Non-GMO Linum Scarlet Flax Flower Seeds
Flax does best with directly sowing them in the garden bed after the last frost. Either broadcast spread and rake in or plant 3-4 seeds according to the spacing provided. Heavily water in the seeds with a low-pressure nozzle to not spray the seeds away. Starting the seeds indoors before the frost date passes to encourage earlier blooms is possible, but some seedlings will not survive the transplant process. If desired, harden off very gradually, and be careful to disturb the roots as little as possible. Seeds can also be sown traditionally in a garden, pot, or planter. Fertilization is not necessary but can promote more blooms.
Plants can tolerate drought conditions but do not overwater. Avoid overhead watering to minimize wetting foliage. Scarlet Flax will benefit from partial shade during severe summers. Fertilization is not necessary but can promote more blooms. Cut back the plants after they set seed. Although flax is an annual and will die at the first frost, it commonly self-seeds and sends volunteers for the next season. This is typically welcomed by gardeners but can be avoided by cutting the plant back at the end of flowering and before seeds are developed.

About Linum Scarlet Flax Garden Seeds
Linum grandiflorum var. rubrum, more colloquially known as Scarlet Flax, Red Flax, or Crimson Flax, is native to Algeria, but the annual branching shrub can be found naturalized widely throughout northern Africa and Southern Europe.
These magnificent Linums can also be used as cut flowers for arrangements. They are a perfect filler flower for any bouquet or centerpiece. To harvest as a cut flower, snip off the bloom as far down the stem as possible and then store it in cold water to prolong its life. Change out the water every day or two for indoor color lasting 1-2 weeks.
Expect bright blooms about 2 inches wide and 2 feet tall.
Other names for Scarlet Flax can be Flowering Flax, or Garden Annual Flax.
Scarlet Flax is a member of the Linaceae family or sometimes known as the flax family. Although nearly 200 species of Linaceae are grown to produce flax seed for linseed oil, Linum grandiflorum var. rubrum is cultivated solely as an ornamental variety.
