How to Grow Garlic Information
Growing Musik Seed Garlic Bulbs
Musik garlic is best planted just before your first frost date in the fall. Pull the cloves apart from each other, leaving the skin on. Soak the cloves in water for 2 hours before planting. Sow about 2 inches deep with the rounded root end down. Cloves should be spaced 4-6 inches apart with rows being 18 inches apart. Covering with 6-8 inches of straw mulch will help protect your newly planted cloves through the winter. In the spring, avoid overwatering, as too much water will lead to pest and disease problems.
It is important to top hardneck varieties to promote bulb development. When the scapes develop (flower stalk), they will become hard and curled about 1-2 months after the first leaves. Cut these scapes when they are about half to full curl. These can then be used for cooking in any recipe that calls for garlic.
Musik Garlic Bulbs in the Vegetable Garden
Garlic is known for its incredible pest control benefits in the home garden due to its strong scent and taste. It is also known to attract beneficial insects like ladybugs, parasitic wasps, and lacewings. Avoid planting asparagus, beans, parsley, peas, and sage next to garlic as they may inhibit each others growth. Do plant with cabbage, chamomile, fruit trees, peppers, roses, spinach, strawberries, and tomatoes.
Harvesting Musik Garlic Bulbs
Musik garlic is harvested in the summer months when the lower 3-4 leaves start to brown. Do not leave them in the ground too long as they may start to rot. When removing from the ground be careful not to bruise or damage the bulbs. Loosen the ground around them and remove.
Curing and Storing Musik Garlic Garden Bulbs
Either lay your harvested garlic with the stalks attached out or hang them in a warm, shady location with gentle air flow. When the neck is dry and the outer skin is papery move them to storage. The curing process usually takes about 2-3 weeks. Braid the stalks together and hang up for storage. The tops may also be cut off for storing the bulbs in a mesh bag. Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location to prevent sprouting. We recommend a location that stays about 45-55F and 50-60 percent relative humidity.

Understanding Garlic Bulb Size Differences 🌱
Garlic bulb seeds and harvested garlic bulbs can vary in size due to a number of natural factors. Here's why:
-
Growth Stages 🌱: Garlic grown for harvesting is often cultivated under specific conditions to produce large, uniform bulbs. When garlic is grown for seed, the priority is on the quality of the cloves and their ability to sprout, rather than size. This means that while seed garlic may be smaller or vary in size, it’s still highly viable and will produce healthy plants.
-
Genetic Diversity 🧬:Garlic is an ancient crop with many varieties that can vary naturally in size. Each type has its own growth habits, clove formation, and size potential. This diversity is what makes garlic such a wonderful and versatile plant to grow!
-
Environmental Factors 🌦️: The final size of a garlic bulb is influenced by weather, soil health, and growing conditions. Different environmental factors during cultivation can cause variations in size—even among the same variety.
-
Purpose of Seed Garlic 🌾: The key consideration with seed garlic is not necessarily the size of the bulb but the health and viability of each clove. Smaller seed garlic can be just as productive in your garden as larger bulbs.
We assure you that whether large or small, all our garlic seed bulbs are of the highest quality and ready to produce delicious garlic in your garden.
