Growing Non-GMO Tidal Wave Series Petunia Flower Seeds
Petunia seeds are small; although they are easy to germinate and grow, the trickiest part is planting! For earliest blooming, begin Tidal Wave Series petunia seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before the final frost and transplant once there are two sets of true leaves. Tidal Wave Series seeds will germinate within 14 days with full lighting. If transplanting outside, harden off seedlings into a partially shaded spot in the garden, or an equally moderate place indoors. Plants are adaptable to being repotted. Tidal Wave Series seeds are hardier than most petunias and are drought tolerant, but avoid overwatering to minimize wetting foliage.
When transplanting seedlings indoors to outdoors, it is paramount to slowly acclimatize them to their new environment. Place them outside for a few hours a day and gradually increase the duration until they are ready to transplant. Petunias bloom the most with regular fertilizations or compost applications. If using conventional fertilizer, apply a time-release granular at the time of planting or transplanting and then supplement throughout the season every 1-2 months with a low-strength feed. Or, mix well-rotted compost into the soil at the time of planting or transplanting, and then every 2 months apply a fresh handful at the base of the plants. This step may not be required for healthy soils.
Tidal Wave Series Petunia in the Flower Garden
Tidal Wave petunias can vine if given a trellis or early support, otherwise, plants will mound and spread out horizontally rather than vertically. Tidal Wave petunias have varying growth habits dependent on spacing and staking. With trellis support, plants will climb 24-36 inches tall with a 12-inch width. Without a trellis or support, plants will mature into 16-24 inch tall spreading mounds with a 30-48 inch wide reach of classic mini 2-inch blooms.
Landscaping With Tidal Wave Series Petunia
Tidal Wave Series Petunias are a great addition to the front of a border or in mixed containers. Tidal Wave Series Petunia seeds are a perfect decorative ground cover for rock gardens or sloping hills.
About Tidal Wave Series Petunia Garden Seeds
Petunia is a genus of 20 species native to South America and the genus is loosely derived from an old Guarani word meaning "tobacco" since the two plants are both in the nightshade family.
Tidal Wave Series Petunia is very attractive to pollinators.
When pruning, use sharp scissors and work early in the morning.
Tidal Wave petunias debuted as both the 2002 All-American Selections (AAS) Flower Winner and 2001 Fleuroselect Novelty Winner because, as noted by AAS judges, "unlike other petunias, gardeners can decide the height of the mature plant." Fleuroselect judges have noted the Tidal Wave petunia as an "excellent landscape performer with terrific Botrytis tolerance and quick recovery from rain."
