Growing Non-GMO Columbine McKana's Giant Flower Seeds
McKana's Giant Columbine seeds have wildflower-like hardiness and are most commonly broadcasted directly in the fall or just after the frost. Columbine seeds thrive from an over-winter frost, but will still bloom just as hardily if started indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the final frost of the spring. Seeds will germinate in 14-21 days in full lighting and plants may reseed in the garden in the best of growing conditions. Plant 3-4 McKana's Giant columbine seeds in rich, evenly moist, and well-drained soil in partial sun to partial shade. Seeds may also be broadcasted for a wildflower appearance. McKana's Giant Columbine seeds thrive in cool shady gardens and will decline in early summer if exposed to long hours of direct heat. Do not let the soil dry out, but do not over-saturate either. Saturate the soil at time of watering and then allow the top inch of soil to completely dry between irrigations.
For earlier flowers, start the seeds indoors and transplant them once they have two true leaves and good roots. Columbine blooms from spring to summer in its second year and will die back at the first frost but will come back next year. There is little need to fertilize unless the soil is especially barren. Use a diluted feed if required. Keep weeds down, particularly in the early stages, so that the plants have a chance to become established. Cut back spent blooms to prolong color and prevent undesired reseeding.
