Growing Non-GMO Giant Teddy Bear Sunflower Flower Seeds
Giant Teddy Bear sunflower seeds are recommended for outdoor growth only because of their enormous height. Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers grow so vigorously that there is little reason to start seeds indoors. Sow directly after the final frost in a sunny spot on the north end of the garden and sheltered from strong winds. Always plant tall varieties of sunflowers on the north end of a garden to avoid casting shade onto the rest of the garden. Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers are so vigorous that they will reach peak bloom in just 2 months. Plant 2-3 Giant Teddy Bear sunflower seeds 0.5 inches deep and 18 inches apart in average, rich, loamy, and well-drained soil in full sun.
Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers may need staking if plants are growing isolated and away from the support of a garden; also, consider staking in preparation for high winds or inclement weather. Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers are one of the most resilient flowers in all of North America. Trim off declining foliage as the summer progresses. Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers have average water requirements.
Giant Teddy Bear Sunflower in the Flower Garden
Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers are full of potential. Use these in cut flower gardens, native gardens, pollinator gardens, and cottage gardens. Scatter them in any bare spot of soil, or intentionally plant them along a property line. No matter how you use them, they are sure to thrive and bring bright color to the table!
Harvesting Giant Teddy Bear Sunflower
Giant Teddy Bear sunflowers have edible seeds. To collect the seeds, simply wait until the petals have faded and then utilize a mesh bag. Place the mesh bag over the flowerhead and secure it. A seed collecting bag can be great for this. Over the next 3-4 weeks, the seeds will fully mature and release into the bag. When the flowerhead is empty, remove the bag and use the seeds for snacks, bird feeders, or next year’s crop!
These fluffy flowers can be cut and used for seasonal bouquets of bright yellow. When they are in full bloom, snip off the stem one to one and a half feet below the bloom. Tie a few stems together with a rubber band and suspend them upside down in a well-ventilated area for dried flowers in 2-3 weeks! Use the product in dry bouquets throughout the winter instead of faux flowers.
