Even seeds and cuttings of the plant are entirely forbidden and there was an incident in 2009 where the seeds made it into the country because Nassella tenuissima was accidentally mislabeled as Stipa lessingiana.

The genus Stipa underwent a taxonomical restructuring and Pony Tails is more correctly known as Nassella.
