Growing Non-GMO Ornamental Millet Jester Flower Seeds
Jester millet is traditionally grown outside and grows so large that there is little reason to ever grow plants indoors. Pennisetum glaucum should germinate in less than 7 days at about 75 F with full lighting. Lightly press without covering 3-4 Jester millet seeds in dry, medium moist, and well-drained soil in full sun. Once established, Jester millet performs well in areas prone to drought, heat, and poor soils.
If starting indoors, harden off before transplanting outdoors. As the plant ages, remove old foliage and old stems to keep the plant looking clean and healthy. This plant is most often treated as an annual and can be cut back each year. It thrives when grown in containers and needs no special care but can be stunted if it becomes root bound. As much sun as possible will ensure the deepest colors and strongest stems.

About Ornamental Millet Jester Garden Seeds
Purple Majesty, the original burgundy ornamental millet, was developed at the University of Nebraska for visual interest as well as general annual hardiness. It is incredibly easy to grow and is tolerant of heat and drought. Jester is a dwarfed version of Purple Majesty.
Ornamental millet can sometimes be referred to as cattail, bulrush, purple millet, blackleaf millet, ornamental pennisetum, or pearl millet. The Jester variety can sometimes be called Purple Jester.
If left on the plant to age, the millet flower will attract birds who feed on the seeds. Perfect for bird watchers! Millet seeds are often included in bird feed mixes.
If your seedlings come up green, don’t be concerned! The direct sunlight is what turns these grasses into the deep purple color we all know and desire. Don’t sweat it and provide plenty of sun as they mature.
Pennisetum glaucum, otherwise known as Millet, is one of the most widely produced varieties of millet and is native to Africa and Asia, but has since been naturalized throughout most of the world. Millet is one of the most popular grows in the entire world, with more than 2 dozen names in just Africa alone.
