Growing NuMex Twilight Hot Pepper Vegetable Garden Seeds
About NuMex Twilight Hot Pepper Vegetable Garden Seeds
Non-GMO NuMex Twilight hot pepper seeds grow a full sun, warm weather crop that can be started indoors or sown directly after your regional frost. For earliest starts, begin indoors 8-10 weeks prior to final frost and harden off plants before transplanting. Sow 2-3 NuMex Twilight seeds ¼" deep per cell or 6-8" apart in the garden in Organically rich and well-drained soil in full sun. Hot pepper seeds germinate in 7-21 days, thinning back to one plant per pot or 18-24" apart in the garden once second set of true leaves establish. Capsicum annuum is a full sun annual tolerant to many difficult soils and climates. Allow soil to dry between waterings since saturation makes hot peppers susceptible to fungal and bacteria spotting. Watch regularly for aphids, white flies, and potato beetles. Non-GMO NuMex Twilight seeds mature in about 80-90 days into a tidy annual 18-24" tall that will first develop purple ornamental chilis, changing to yellow and orange during the ripening process, and finally red when ready to harvest.
Peppers can be classified as either sweet, hot, or ornamental and many peppers, such as non-GMO NuMex Twilight, are the result of breeding between these categories. The species Capsicum annuum actually includes many different types of peppers including the world famous jalapeno, cayenne, bell, and New Mexico chile. Much like Columbus' many other blunders, this spicy fruit native to the New World was wrongly mislabeled "pepper" while in search of traditonal seasoning black pepper from his intended target, India. Since then, Capsicum annuum has become domesticated throughout the world and adopted into the cuisines of many different cultures.
New Mexico State University Chile Pepper Institue
NuMex is a variety of pepper developed by the leading pepper research team at New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute in Las Cruces, NM. Situated right in the heart of the demanding American southwest, the NMSU Chile Pepper Institute is a non-profit, international research organization that has been providing firsthand knowledge, research, and original cultivars to the public while establishing New Mexico as the preeminent home of all things Capsicum. The now world-famous Bhut Jolokia was discovered by the Chile Pepper Institute in 2006 and, at the time, held the Guinness World Record for world's hottest pepper at 855,000 SHU.
