Growing Non-GMO Mixed Clarkia Flower Seeds
Mixed Clarkia is best grown from seeds by sowing them directly into the garden bed. Broadcast sow the seeds and densely pack them into the soil surface. Seeds should be exposed to light, or they may not germinate. After germination, thin the seedlings to 6-12 inches apart. Choose a sunny place for planting. Clarkia can tolerate partial shade, but the most blooms will be achieved with full sun.
Avoid extra fertilizers, especially those with high nitrogen content. Water the plants regularly, but do not allow the roots to sit in water. Once established, Clarkia is drought tolerant. Tall plants may require staking as the soft stems tend to fall over if they get too tall. Cut the plant back after the first flush of flowering has ended, and it will return for another round.
Mixed Clarkia in the Flower Garden
Clarkia seeds are a favorite for kids or novice gardeners because they are a low-maintenance grow tolerant to many garden conditions. Mixed Clarkia plants are perfect for large fields, wildflower gardens, and mass plantings. They are also just as likely to thrive near patios, walkways, and entryways.
Harvesting Mixed Clarkia plants
Mixed Clarkia plants are perfect if you wish to have a cut flower garden but want to reduce the amount of water required for irrigation. These flowers make charming bouquets all summer long. To harvest, cut a flower stalk as far down as possible and immediately place it in cool, clean water. They may be harvested in the morning at full bloom or just before. Change the water daily for extended color. Flower food is for sale in powder form to add to water, prolonging the blooms’ vitality.
