Suitable for growing in fields, containers (with support), garden plots, raised beds, and greenhouses (with pollinators). Resistant to Cucumber Mosaic Virus and Scab, with a tolerance to powdery mildew. These delicious pickling cucumbers were developed by the National Pickle Packers Association to have a tapered shape ideal for packing dill pickles. The fruits reach 5-7 inches long and have few seeds. ~1,000 seeds/oz.

Growing National Pickling Cucumber in the Vegetable Garden
Direct sow 1-2 weeks after your last frost or start indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting. Plant 1 inch deep, 12-18 inches apart, with rows spaced 48 inches. Using floating row covers until flowers begin to develop can help protect from common pests like the cucumber beetle. Be sure to provide consistent water, as cucumbers have a large water content. Irregular watering can lead to poor development and irregularly shaped fruits.
Harvesting National Pickling Cucumber
National Pickling cucumbers grow to 5-7 inches but are best harvested around 5 inches. Harvesting while young can encourage larger yields. Be sure to use harvesting or pruning shears rather than yanking them off the vine to protect the fruits from damage.
