Growing Non-GMO Rock Soapwort Saponaria Flower Seeds
Saponarias can be started indoors 4 weeks before the last frost for the earliest blooms. Otherwise, sow them directly in the garden bed or field after the last frost. Lightly cover the seeds and water with a mister. Keep in mind that seeds germinate best in warmer soils. Saponaria do well in low water conditions but may require a bit of extra water to help them get started.
Rock Soapwort Saponaria bloom for about a month from spring to summer. It is recommended to deadhead to encourage more blooms and keep the plant compact. The best way to do this is to cut back the entire plant by 1-2 inches with electric sheers or another tool. That way the plant gets cut back, and the numerous dead flowers removed at the same time. In warmer zones, seeds can also be sown in the fall for zones above 8. Follow the above instructions as normal for mild-climate winter blooms.
