Growing Non-GMO Columbine Dragonfly Mix Flower Seeds
Dragonfly Mix Columbine seeds have wildflower-like hardiness and are most commonly broadcasted directly in the fall or just before the final frost. Columbine seeds thrive from an over-winter frost, but will still bloom just as hardily if started indoors 6-8 weeks before the final frost of the spring. Seeds will germinate in 14-21 days in full lighting and plants may reseed in the garden with optimal growing conditions. Plant 3-4 Dragonfly Mix columbine seeds in organically rich, evenly moist, and well-drained soil in partial sun to partial shade. Seeds may also be broadcasted for a wildflower appearance. Dragonfly Mix columbine seeds thrive in cool, lightly shaded gardens and will decline in early summer if exposed to long hours of direct heat. Do not let the soil dry out, but do not over-saturate either.
For earlier flowers, start the seeds indoors and transplant them once they have 2-4 true leaves and good roots. Columbine blooms from spring to summer in its second year and will die back at the first frost but return the following year. There is little need to fertilize unless the soil is infertile. Use a diluted feed if necessary. Mixing in compost at the start of each spring is even better in the long run. Keep weeds at a minimum, especially while plants are young so they have a chance to establish roots and leaves. Cut back the spent blooms (deadhead) to prolong flowering and prevent reseeding if desired.

All parts of this plant are toxic to animals and humans.

Tips From Our Gardeners
”Columbine is dear to my heart because it reminds me of my mom. She has a stunning columbine plant above a small waterfall feature in her backyard garden located in North Eastern Wisconsin and even though it gets lots of shade, it thrives."
